Genoa, a city full of fascination - not only because of its port, but also because of its incomparable location on the gulf of the same name. Genoa has just under 600,000 inhabitants and its Mediterranean climate, Italian flair and culinary delights make it a typical Italian city.

Together with Lille, Genoa was declared European Capital of Culture by the European Union in 2004. In 2006, the Strade Nuove with the Renaissance and Baroque buildings of the Palazzi dei Rolli was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you've had enough of art and culture, the best thing to do is take a trip to the aquarium. Built in 1992, the aquarium is the second largest aquarium in Europe after L' Oceanogràfic in Valencia.

It is possible to travel to Genoa by train or plane. By train, it takes just over 6 hours to arrive at the centrally located train station in Genoa. As there is no direct flight to Genoa and therefore the journey by plane takes almost as long, we recommend that you travel there and back by train.
